Stone Resin vs Acrylic Bathtubs: Which Is Right for You?
Almost every freestanding tub is made from one of two materials. Both make a beautiful tub. Here's how they differ day to day.
| Stone resin (solid surface) | Acrylic | |
|---|---|---|
| Look & feel | Matte, stone-like, solid and warm to the touch | Glossy, smooth, lighter feel |
| Heat retention | Excellent: thick walls hold bath water warm longer | Good, especially double-walled tubs |
| Weight | Heavy; plan for delivery, carrying and floor support | Light; easy to carry upstairs |
| Scratches | Minor scratches and stains can often be buffed out, since the colour runs all the way through | Can scratch; light marks can be polished |
| Price | Higher | Lower |
Choose stone resin if…
- You take long baths and want the water to stay warm.
- You love a matte, natural-stone look.
- The tub is going on a ground floor or well-supported floor.
Choose acrylic if…
- The tub has to go up a narrow stair or into an upper-floor bath.
- You want the freestanding look at a lower price.
- You prefer a glossy white finish.
Caring for either
