How to Clean and Care for a Freestanding Tub
A freestanding tub needs very little to stay beautiful, as long as you use the right things on it.
After each bath
Rinse the tub with warm water and wipe it dry with a soft towel. It takes a minute and prevents most soap film and hard-water marks from building up.
Weekly cleaning
- Use warm water with a mild dish soap or a non-abrasive bathroom cleaner.
- Wipe with a soft cloth or sponge, then rinse and dry.
- Don't forget the outside of the tub and the floor behind it, where dust collects.
What to avoid
- Abrasive powders, scouring pads and steel wool.
- Harsh solvents such as acetone and paint thinner.
- Bleach left sitting on the surface, and hair dye spills left to dry.
Stone resin: scratches and stains
Because the colour runs all the way through, light scratches and stains on stone resin can usually be buffed out with a very fine abrasive pad and a little water, working gently in small circles. Test in an inconspicuous spot first.
Acrylic: keeping the shine
Light marks on acrylic can often be removed with a non-abrasive acrylic polish. Avoid anything gritty, which dulls the gloss.
Hard water
If you have hard water, a solution of white vinegar and water loosens mineral spots. Rinse well afterwards.
